If we were writing John’s obituary, this is what we would say:

John was preceded in death by his father, George Clark, his mother, Rita Clark, his beloved grandmother, and his brother Billy.

He was very thankful that they loved him and raised him to be the person he turned out to be.

After graduating from Duquesne University, he devoted his life to public service.

He was active in the Pittsburgh Republican Party as Chairman. At age 19 he ran for City Council. He ran for U.S. Congress three times. He worked on President Reagan’s 1980 campaign.

John was active and held offices in many lodges and charitable organizations including Tall Cedars, Odd Fellows and Masons.

He is survived by his brothers Jim and George, nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. John was the kind of person who made friends wherever he went.

I send my deepest condolences to John's family and friends. He kept up a courageous fight against a terrible disease. May his memory be for a blessing.

Our deepest condolences to the Clark family.

John became a good friend though we didn’t seem to agree on much of anything! It’s a testimony to his ability to draw people out and make friends everywhere.

He was passionate, extremely loyal and sentimental. John attended every one of our events and added a lot. We will miss his big presence and yes, his big car!

I was so lucky to spend time with my cousin John, especially as we were growing up. What wonderful memories I have of our families being together. I will miss him so much. Rest in peace John.

John was a commanding presence.  I can still hear his voice in my head, so as I write this the day after his funeral, it’s still painful to realize that I will never again receive those enthusiastic hugs and greetings he always distributed freely to everyone he knew in the room before taking a seat.  Everything he did, he did with his whole heart, whether it was sharing his opinions and experiences, enjoying cookies, or helping wherever he could be of service.  John was an intensely loyal friend who will be sorely missed.

I met John in 2005. We became good friends and it was always a joy to get together. He will be missed greatly
