Norbert H. Savage III

Thursday, April 08, 2021

Norbert H. Savage, III, 34, died unexpectedly at his home on April 6, 2021. He was born on February 25, 1987 in Fullerton, California. Norb graduated from Upper Arlington High School in Upper Arlington, Ohio. While at Upper Arlington High School he was a Varsity rower on the crew team. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio in 2012 and began his career at Abercrombie & Fitch in Columbus, Ohio working with both the eCommerce mobile app and Omnichannel team. In 2016, Norb moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to join the eCommerce team at Dick’s Sporting Goods headquarters as a Product Manager, and later as a Senior Product Manager. Norb had recently been promoted to Distinguished Product Manager working in the eCommerce portfolio.  Norb had many good friends from Dick’s Sporting Goods and often talked about how lucky he was to find himself in a work situation that encouraged and promoted a work/life balance. Outside of his career, Norb enjoyed reading, music, hiking and photography. He had a deep intellectual curiosity for learning about new things and sharing his interests with others. During the pandemic, Norb also enjoyed online gaming with a group of current and former work friends as a way to stay connected. He had recently reengaged with the sport of golf and was taking chess lessons. Family was important to Norb, he traveled home frequently to see his parents and his beloved family dog, Taffy. He was especially excited about becoming a first-time Uncle in September. His family and friends will miss his beautiful smile, his sense of humor and curious mind, and his gift of finding joy in the small moments. Norb is survived by his parents Norbert H. Savage, Jr. and Dr. Shari L. Savage of Columbus, Ohio; sister Caroline A. Savage (Shediac) and brother-in-law Andrew T. Shediac of San Francisco, California; Grandparents Lee R. and Evanna L. Andersen of Peoria, Illinois; Grandmother Gail O. Savage of Exeter, New Hampshire; Uncles James S. (Fiona) Savage of Sydney, Australia and William O. (Krista) Savage of Hampton Falls, New Hampshire; Aunt Julie (James) Verhaar of Troy, Illinois; and cousins Kaili and Annika Savage of Hampton Falls, New Hampshire; Emily and Hayden Savage of Sydney, Australia; and John and Daniel Verhaar of Troy, Illinois. Norb was preceded in death by his grandfather Norbert H. Savage, Sr. A small family celebration of life will take place later this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Norb’s name to the Dick’s Sporting Goods Foundation Sports Matter at or WTCares, a non-profit Welsh Terrier rescue and rehoming charity

Norb was a beacon of laughter, knowledge and fun. To know him, to work with him, and more importantly to learn from him is something that cannot be replaced.

My heart goes out to his loved family and friends.

Norb lived in service to those around him. He was a joy to be with and a role model for an empathetic professional practice that made the lives of those he touched happier and more productive. I knew him for only a short time and I can only imagine the void that has been left for those who have known him longer and more deeply. My condolences to you all.

My deepest condolences to Norb’s family during this difficult time. I had the utmost pleasure of working with Norb while at DSG and his impact on the product org and those he worked with will forever hold its mark. His passion and love for what he did and those he worked with ran deep. He will be missed but never forgotten.
