Arlene Butera Ferrante

Arlene Butera Ferrante, 83, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after a long and brave battle with renal failure. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Arlene embodied the strength, independence, and integrity that defined her life. A proud graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, she charted her own course with clarity and purpose. Arlene was deeply principled—guided by a strong sense of right and wrong, a fierce loyalty to those she loved, and a quiet yet bold confidence in her ability to face life’s challenges with resilience and grace. Family was the cornerstone of Arlene’s life. She gave endlessly of herself to those around her—offering wisdom and unwavering support. She raised her children with courage, compassion, and high standards, modeling what it means to live with dignity and conviction. She also believed in living fully. Arlene had a deep love for travel, an adventurous spirit, and an appreciation for the simple pleasures—good books, thoughtful meals, and meaningful conversations. Whether wintering in Florida, cooking for those she loved, or exploring new corners of the world, she brought strength and intention to everything she did. Arlene was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Dominic and Mary Butera; her devoted husband, Dr. James A. Ferrante; and two of her cherished sons, James A. Jr. and James D. Ferrante. She is survived by her children: Angela Ferrante (Mark Stockdale) of Berlin, PA; Louis Ferrante (Claudia) of Monument, CO; and Lisa Rivers (Andrew) of Greenville, SC. Her grandchildren—Daniella and Nicola Ferrante, and Marley and Theron Rivers—were her pride and joy. Also surviving are her beloved siblings, Margaret Banks (Warren – deceased) and Michael Butera (Rita); her loyal partner of 14 years, Joseph L. Menner III; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family who looked to her as a steady and loving presence. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Arlene’s remarkable life on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Bock Funeral Home, Ltd. 1500 Mount Royal Blvd. Glenshaw. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM, followed by a Catholic service at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arlene’s memory to: Little Sisters of the Poor, Partners in Progress or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arlene Ferrante lived with boldness, heart, and integrity. Her legacy as a strong, principled, and loyal friend and mother will endure through the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely.
