Carol Chaszar Cubelic, age 85, of Gibsonia, PA, formerly of Lorain, OH, died on February 20, 2024, with her devoted family by her side. The daughter of Frances (Frankovich) and James Chaszar and beloved wife of the late Charles R. Cubelic (1927-1989), Carol is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter: Cynthia (Zeljko) Jergan, Zachary (Antonia), Antonela, Danijela; Christine (Craig) Wyke, Alexis (Paul) Svirbel, Madison, Clayton and their father, John Kejas; Charles (Pam) Cubelic, Elizabeth (Dean) Maddox, Victoria, Chuckie; and Cathleen (Patrick) Farrell, Brandon (Lindsey), Jessica, and Kylie. Carol was an executive administrative professional at Robert Morris University from 1972 to 1999 in the Offices of Community Affairs & Alumni Relations and Financial Aid. She worked side-by-side with her late husband running the Pittsburgh Folk Festival, an iconic annual event attracting tens-of-thousands of patrons over Memorial Day weekend to celebrate the rich ethnic diversity of Pittsburgh, for more than 30 years. Carol, “Baba,” was extremely dedicated to her children and especially her 11 grandchildren, who she was blessed to have all in the Pittsburgh area. She routinely taxied them to their activities, sports and rehearsals and was an avid cheerleader and supporter. A widow and the family matriarch for 35 years, she channeled her energy, passion, and time in service to her Croatian culture and community. A lifelong member of the Croatian Fraternal Union of America, Carol served as an officer on the High Trial Board (1995-2003 and 2007-2011), Treasurer of Lodge 1, and was an annual Convention delegate for multiple terms. She served as an officer and volunteer at Croatian National Hall Javor for many years and volunteered for the CFU United Lodges. She was an original member of the Lira Tamburitzans in Lorain, OH and later a member of Folklore Ensemble Kumovi and Javor Pittsburgh, where she enjoyed performing with family and friends. Carol was a devout member of St. Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church. Family and friends will be received on Friday, February 23 from 1-4 and 6-9 PM at the Bock Funeral Home, Ltd.,1500 Mt. Royal Boulevard, Glenshaw. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 24 at 10 AM at St. Nicholas Church, 24 Maryland Avenue, Millvale, PA 15209. Burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Carol’s name to The Tamburitzans, c/o of The Charles R. Cubelic Scholarship Fund https://www.thetamburitzans.org with your donation noting it is in her honor or to Croatian National Hall Javor, 805 East Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212 noting in memory of Carol Cubelic for the Mural Fund.
