Joan E. Dawson

Joan Dawson, A faith-filled woman, dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, entered eternal life on Sunday, October 19, 2025. After growing up in Troy Hill and graduating from Elizabeth Ann Seton High School, Joan married Ronald J. Dawson on May 4, 1957. She enjoyed 56 years of marriage and built a family that included four children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is preceded on her journey by her beloved husband Ron and daughter Ruth Dawson-Creehan. She is survived by her loving family - daughters Susan (Richard) Loch, Lisa (David) Butcher, and son Ronald J. Dawson, II; grandchildren - Rachel (Marty) Maaskant, Eliza (Brian) Doherty, David Loch (Nicole McCune), Ryan Butcher, Collin Butcher and Jenna Dawson; her great-grandchildren Landon Loch, Hawkins Maaskant and Levi Doherty. Joan enjoyed a vibrant Catholic life as a parishioner of St Mary of the Assumption Church with her family, where she was the Recording Secretary for the St. Vincent DePaul Society Chapter. She and Ron found joy in and formed life-long friendships during fellowship with other members of the Marriage Encounter group. A dedicated mother, Joan supported her children through their school years by volunteering both at school and in Girl Scouts or Indian Guides. She also assisted Ron in his parish endeavors through the years. Joan worked as a secretary at W.A. Schwartz for her son-in-law, David Butcher where she had a direct impact on his success. She discovered her passion as a volunteer and eventual full-time tour guide/wedding planner at Hartwood Acres for twenty years. During these years, she created the Hartline Newsletter, and as a self-taught pianist and organist, she occasionally played the Great Hall organ for Hartwood’s touring guests. When she was outside of work or Hartwood, Joan enjoyed traveling and found joy in planning trips for the family or for just her and Ron. She especially like spending time at the ocean including Cape May, NJ and Hilton Head, SC. Joan spent her last few years in peace, comfort and joy living at The Haven Assisted Living Community. Joan was thankful for the big-hearted caregivers and many activities. The family continues to be grateful for their support.
