Lois Hammer Schoewe

Lois Hammer Schoewe, age 91, of Allison Park, PA, passed away on September 19, 2026 at UPMC Passavant – McCandless surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Dr. Robert Lou Schoewe (Bob) of Cincinnati, OH. Lois was born April 28, 1935 in Bedford, PA to the late Quentin and Ruth Hammer. Lois was the sister to the late Joyce (Donald) Laher and David Hammer of Bedford, PA.

Lois was the beloved and present mother and grandmother of Beth (Dave) Zollars of Belle Vernon, and their combined families of Emily (Tom) Wright, Haley (Alan) Hritz, Ryan (Lexi) Zollars, and Nick Zollars; Kathy (Jim) Hall of Upper St. Clair and their five children, Jessica Brown, Kimberly (Dane) Conwell, Allison (Aleck) Szallar, Meredith (Kyle) Hall, and Devin Hall; and Susan (Jim) DiPerna of Allison Park, and their four children, Caroline (Allen) Dean, Alexandra (Jake) Brezinsky, Kathleen DiPerna, and James (Samantha) DiPerna III. She was the great-grandmother to Hannah and Payton Wright, Jack and Emery Hritz, Ellie and Owen Krut, Leona, Naomi, Margo, and Baker Conwell, Landon and Foster Szallar, Azlynn, Arielle, and Archer Dean, Miles and Maeve Brezinsky, Charlotte and James DiPerna IV; and great-great grandmother to Ben Yanak.

Lois graduated from Bedford High School in 1953 and then went on to school at West Penn Hospital where she was training to become a nurse. It was there that she met her soon-to-be husband, Bob. Lois stepped back from her schooling to raise their three daughters in Allison Park, PA. 

Lois was a vibrant, intelligent, and caring wife, mother, grandmother, friend, homemaker, and community member. She was known for her wit, beautiful smile, and dedication to her family. Lois could easily recall the names of any plant or bird that she spotted in her lush garden or home, retained numerous facts about history and her family’s lives, and had an extensive vocabulary. Friends and family would eagerly gather at Lois’ home for dinner parties, weekly meals with family, holiday get-togethers, and to play tennis. She was an avid reader, talented quilter, knitter, seamstress, cook, and baker. It was common to walk into her home and immediately smell the aromas of a home-cooked meal, hear the sound of Andrea Bocelli playing on her CD player, and to be greeted by a warm ‘hello!’ and one of her cherished dogs over the years (Airdrie, Penny, Sam, Meta, Misty, Bimbo). 

Lois was an involved member of her church, Parkwood Presbyterian Church, and donated her time and talents to the church quilting group. Lois was happiest when she was surrounded by her family, and always jumped at the opportunity to share a meal or attend her grandchildren's extracurricular activities. Lois also enjoyed weekends and trips with her long-time gentleman friend, Dr. Richard Rothrock, after the passing of her husband, Bob. The family would like to thank the staff at Cumberland Woods Village, Ashton Commons, and Suncrest Hospice for their dedicated care of Lois. 

Family and friends will be received at Bock Funeral Home, 1500 Mt. Royal Blvd. Glenshaw, PA 15116, on Friday, October 2, 2026 from 2-5 pm. A Christian funeral service will be held at Parkwood Church, 4289 Mt. Royal Blvd. Allison Park, PA 15101, on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 11 am. Interment will be in Bedford, PA at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Parkwood Church or the North Hills Community Outreach Food Pantry.
