Nick Kakavis, age 89, of Shaler, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2025. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Betty (Scott) Kakavis; loving father to his children Susan (Michael) Powers and the late Scott Kakavis; proud grandfather of Alyssa and Julia Powers; dear uncle of Gillian, Courtney (Michael) and Devon (Derek); cherished son of the late Soterios and Eugenia Kakavis.
Nick, the son of Greek immigrant parents, was raised in Oakland. He graduated with honors from the University of Pittsburgh, earning both an Engineering degree and an MBA. Over the course of 40 years at Mesta Machine Company, Nick rose to become President of MCS, forming many meaningful friendships along the way.
Nick had a passion for collecting, whether it was trains, coins, lathes, or clocks. Above all, his affection for his family stood at the heart of his life. He cherished spending winter months at his condo in Naples, Florida, especially enjoying boating and fishing outings with his friends and granddaughters, Alyssa and Julia.
We would like to express our gratitude to the Hillman Oncology Department, especially Dr. Friedland, Dr. Petro, and Andy Collins, for their dedicated care over the past five years.
