Herbert G. Seel Jr.

Saturday, April 13, 2019

Herbert G., Seel, Jr. in Pittsburgh, PA on April 13, 2019 at the age of 88.  He was survived by his wife of 59 years, Joan Nestor Seel, sons Michael J. (Lynn) Seel and Steven H. (Lisa) Seel, six grandchildren, Emily, Maxwell, Sophie, Scott, Madeline, and Michaelyn, a sister, Freda Viola Chidester of Nashville, TN and a brother John Seel of Yuma, AZ.  He was born in Pittsburgh in 1931, the son of Herbert Seel and Freda Lane.  He served in the United States Coast Guard from 1952-1956, stationed primarily at Virginia Beach, VA.  After his honorable discharge from service, he studied drafting and spent his career in civil engineering.  Herb embodied the virtues of hard work, self-reliance, and pragmatism -- a proud do-it-yourselfer who was rarely at a loss for a mechanical solution.  He was an avid reader of westerns and enjoyed summer evenings on his front porch, a nearby radio usually carrying the voice of the Pirates.  Herb never shied away from a political debate and always made his positions well known.  He was loved and will be missed.  Friends will be received on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bock Funeral Home, Ltd., 1500 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw. A Private burial will be held at a later date.

On behalf of the retired staff of Peter Muller-Munk/Wilbur Smith Associates we send our condolences to the family of Herb Herb was for decades the chief draftsman at PMMA. He was a "draftsmans draftsman" consumate professional. Almost all the drawings produced at the firm had Herb's signature in the title block. He knew how to build things and detail them. He was extremely knowledgeable about mechanical engineering. He will be missed, and all of us have cherished memories of working with Herb.We are glad that he got to enjoy many years of retirement. May he rest in peace.

Leave a Condolence
